Disney’s A Christmas Carol in 3D

Written by Brando Calrissian on November 9, 2009

So my father actually saw this movie over the weekend and I asked him over Facebook what he thought of it. Since he summed it up pretty well and I will probably never see it, I’ll let his words be my review of the movie:

It was better than i anticipated. The 3D effects were very good for the most part.. The character design is getting much better – huge improvement over The Polar Express, still some problems with getting a natural look and feel.. Where the movie went wrong is the few times it strayed from the original story to put in sequences that had nothing to do with the story.. just filler to show off their 3D wizardry… Also – it’s still tough to get real EMOTION into a motion/performance capture – it’s not “emotion capture” – but as I said it’s gettng better. All in all – it was worth the trip.. Our local critic gave it 3 * and that seems about right.

What I like best about his review is his comment on “motion capture” vs. “emotion capture.”  It’s something I’ve noticed in such movies myself, and is the reason I have a hard time really connecting with them.  Have any of you seen this movie?  If so what’d you think of it?  You can post a comment here, or head on over to the forums
