In Case You Missed It Vol. 3: The Hangover
Written by Thrillhouse VanBailten on October 19, 2009
This is probably the second funniest movie that I’ve seen in theaters, right behind Superbad. (Trains, Planes, and Automobiles being my favorite of all time, but I was not old enough to experience it in theaters.) This movie is not for the easily offended, as there are several scenes with male and female nudity (not nearly as much as Brüno, though.) I have been a huge fan of Zach Galifianakis, ever since I saw him in 2005’s The Comedians of Comedy (also a great movie), and Ed Helms (The Office) who has been on many people’s radar since his work on The Daily Show from 2001-2006.
The overall plot of the movie takes some twists and turns, as the trio of bachelor partiers retrace their steps from the previous nights exploits. I do wish that they had explained how a chicken had ended up in their room too. One of the best parts of the movie is what doesn’t happen. In so many movies, the climactic point of the movie is exacerbated by the main characters being unable to take the weight of their quest. This strife tests their friendship, which in the short term splits them apart, only to reconcile about 15 minutes later as the characters realize that they need each other. In the Hangover, the trio is almost pushed to this point, right after a naked Mr. Chow (Ken Jeong) kicks the crap out of them, but director Todd Phillips quickly pushes them past this campy point.
At the end there is a cameo by Dan Finnerty. You may remember him from Old School “I F*ckin’ need you more then ever!” This time, he’s singing Candy Shop, a raunchy rap song. Unfortunately, the joke is a little tired. I’ve also seen him on the train wreck that is the Jay Leno show.
I recommend everyone to catch this for a first, or second (or more) time, especially in the cheap seats, it’s worth another watch. This would probably fall under many people’s (including my) buy list when it comes on DVD. I can only imagine how much more was left out of this wonderfully hilarious movie.
