Ninja Assassin
Written by Action Andy on December 21, 2009Wow. I saw Ninja Assassin a few weeks ago so let me finally finish this review.
Here are two facts about my experience.
1) I don’t think I’ve seen more blood in a movie
2) I don’t think I’ve seen more ridiculous action/blood/dismemberment in a movie.
Imagine the restaurant scene in Kill Bill where limbs go flying for minutes on end.
Now picture that through the duration of the movie.
Everyone KNOWS ninjas are awesome, but the beginning of the film proves it. Then through various “flash back-like scenes” they reveal the nature of Ninjas’ training. A harsh and unforgiving environment proclaims “love” while major beatings ensue. The plot and acting are basic enough to carry the action sequences along…which is why you’ve come to Ninja Assassin anyway.
The involvement of the Matrix brothers shows through different scenes and special effects like bits of bullet-time, slowed down action involving air moving like waves (a la bullets rippling through air in the Matrix) around a sword swing, and casting.
Really, it’s hard to describe this one to someone. Either you know they’ll like it or hate it. Blood, gore, dismemberment, and ninja shenanigans. If you like ridiculous action flicks, this one is for you. I give this guy a 3.5 of 5 stars for what it’s worth. It’s a fine movie that’s basically what you’d expect from the preview.
P.S….I’m really at a loss here. There aren’t really any women in this film worth looking at. I mean, Naomie Harris was in it, and she was also in 28 Days Later which was a great movie but…really doesn’t help the hot-girl-factor so I guess that went nowhere fast.
