Family Guy: S08Ep02 “Family Goy” Review

Just as I suspected. I knew this was going to happen. We go from one of the best Family Guy episodes ever right back to an ep that scores a big “Meh.” “Family Goy,” this week’s episode about the Griffin family’s conversation to (or struggle with) Judaism, is one of those episodes that just doesn’t do a whole lot. It’s not particularly bad, but it’s not particularly funny, either. None of the jokes seem very fresh, save for maybe Quagmire’s side clip about thinking he was the character who was going to get a spin off show and also his being entirely unaware of internet porn. Those parts made me laugh. Everything else is very hit or miss. I mean some things are kind of funny, like Mort being shot at just being the way people say hello to him, but jokes like that are also so obvious so they become more groan worthy than laugh worthy.

I like when they have different intros for the shows, though, and this week’s play on the Justice League was a fun little bit. It wasn’t really hilarious or even all that funny, but it’s always fun and a little refreshing to change things up a bit instead of recycling the standard intro segment every week.

I honestly don’t have much else to say about the episode. It was, in my opinion, very forgettable. If you’re an avid Family Guy watcher and happened to miss it then you should catch up with it, but if you only catch Family Guy once in a while then I’d advise you to use your 22 minutes on something else. Perhaps going back and watching episode 1 if you missed that.

If you want to see either of them you can do so easily (and for free) by going to Hulu. Hulu is for the win.
